About the Artist

Steve was born in Brooklyn, New York, where he spent his
formative years in the vibrant borough, which, at the time, brimmed
with post-war energy and community spirit. He grew up in a classic
six-across row house, a staple of Brooklyn neighborhoods in the
1950’s and 60’s. This environment, close-knit and bustling, shaped
Steve’s early understanding of relationships, teamwork, and
perseverance, qualities that would guide him throughout his life. He
attended Midwood High School, where he found a passion for
sports and played varsity football, a defining experience that instilled
discipline and a sense of purpose.

After high school, Steve’s journey took a profound turn. He
attended college but felt a strong pull toward a deeper, more
meaningful path. This inner calling led him to join a spiritual Ashram,
where he lived for an extraordinary 22 years. At the Ashram, he
studied and practiced spirituality under the guidance of spiritual
master Robert Charles Sohn (Gurudev). Life in the Ashram was a
deeply immersive experience, structured around the pursuit of
spiritual awakening and self-realization. Steve engaged in practices
designed to elevate consciousness and foster enlightenment. Here,
he also trained and worked as an Amma® massage therapist, an
art focused on balancing the body’s energy or “chi” through skillful,
hands-on massage. This practice not only allowed him to help
others heal but also deepened his understanding of wholistic health
and energy flow, which would become central themes in his later
 life.

During this period, Steve met his wife Marion, his lifelong partner,
with whom he has shared 49 years of marriage. Their relationship
began and blossomed within the spiritually rich environment of the
Ashram, and together they embarked on a journey of studying
various forms of spiritualism. They focused particularly on the
principles of the Fourth Way, a philosophy that emphasizes
integrating spiritual practices into everyday life. Rather than
retreating from the world, Fourth Way practitioners aim to find
enlightenment through real-world experiences and challenges.
Steve and Marion embraced this concept, applying it to their lives,
work, and family, creating a bridge between their spiritual insights
and practical day-to-day realities.

Professionally, Steve found his calling in the natural foods industry
during the 1980’s, a time when the public was beginning to
recognize the importance of wellness and wholistic health. He
dedicated himself to the development and promotion of natural
herbal products, helping bring to market a range of innovative,
nature-based remedies. Through this work, he combined his
spiritual understanding of natural balance and health with his
professional expertise, becoming a pioneering force in an industry
that was still in its infancy.

In addition to his career, Steve is also a published author, having
co-authored a book with his lifelong friend, Steve Schenkman. Their
work is entitled “Dogma… A Spiritual Dog’s Tale.” It offers readers a
lighthearted yet profound exploration of spirituality through the
perspective and narrative of a “special dog named Mollie.” Steve
also authored this book “The Art of the Pun”, reflecting his wit,
creativity, graphic skill and philosophical leanings. The Art of the
Pun showcases Steve’s love for wordplay and humor in a
beautifully illustrated collection of 50 original graphic puns. Music
has also been a lifelong passion; he enjoys playing guitar, writing,
and exploring graphic design on the computer, using each medium
as a way to express his thoughts and reflections. He has produced
2 original music CD’s, named “Pendulum” and “Transformation.”

Steve’s personal life is equally rich and fulfilling. He has a special
love for Miniature Schnauzers, whose companionship has brought
him joy and inspiration over the years. Mollie, Harpo and Kasha are
now gone, while Lucy is the current Schnauzer member of the
household.

Now, as Steve enters a phase of life dedicated to inner reflection
and a slower pace, he embraces this time to integrate all that he
has learned from his diverse experiences. With a wealth of
memories and accomplishments, he remains grounded in the
principles that have guided him from his youth in Brooklyn to his
years in the Ashram and beyond.

Peace & Love!
